Recently, I wrote about some of the well-known cafes in the Pigalle/Montmartre areas of Paris during the second half of the 19th century and into the 20th.
Until recently there was a very classy absinthe bar in Pigalle with tasting flights of various absinthes and absinthe based cocktails. Unfortunately closed a few years back, there are a few others but haven’t tried them
This was an interesting read. I've heard so much about absinthe over the years, but I never really knew about its origins. I’ve tried it before and found it quite pleasant.
I hear that Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder. They were still selling bottles of it in London when I lived there. I bought one once but was never brave enough to give it a try. It ended up languishing at my Mum’s house unopened when I moved to the States. No, she never tried it either 😁
Another great one Jenn, I look forward to these now...Keep writing

Not sure I’d want to try it . Probably not. But it’s interesting that it could be so popular.
Wow! I had heard of absinthe but really didn’t know what it was!

I’m glad you enjoyed reading it! I also tried absinthe many years ago and it was fun to try. 🍸
Isn't absinth also part of the classic Sazerac cocktail?
And I remember well the absinth bar on rue de la Roquette called " La Fée Verte"
Ah good point- yes absinthe is an ingredient in a Sazerac when available 🍸
I had an evening on absinthe 20 years ago and let's just say it made for a very very interesting evening indeed!
😂🍸

Ha ha! Oh well… 🤷♀️
Nice subject. I love that green devil poster. I had heard about it being produced again, but know of nobody who has tried it.
I tried it in the U.S. 20+ years ago and aside from the licorice flavor, I don’t remember much about it!
